What should I expect?

During your consultation, you will be asked questions about your symptoms and you will have an examination.  The options for treatment and the risks involved will be outlined, and the next steps will be explained to you.  Following the consultation, Mr Atkin will write to the referring doctor and you will receive a copy of the letter.

Do I need a GP referral?

You don't always need a GP referral but if you have been referred by a doctor it is useful to bring their letter and a list of any medications to the consultation.

Which insurance companies is Mr Atkin registered with?

Mr Atkin works with most insurance companies, including Aviva, AxaPPP, April/Healix, Benenden, Bupa, Cigna, CS Healthcare, Health-On-Line, The Exeter, Vitality, and WPA.

Is he 'fee assured'?

Yes Mr Atkin is 'fee assured' meaning his fees are within the acceptable limits set by the insurance companies.

I don't have private insurance, can I still make an appointment?

How do I know what my operation will cost?

If you are registered with an insurance company, you will be provided with a procedure code for any proposed treatment that you can use to check if your procedure is covered by your insurance policy. You will need to check with your insurer if you are required to pay any excess or shortfall amount. If you are paying for your operation yourself you will receive a quotation and information on the available finance packages.

How do I pay my policy excess or shortfall?

You will be sent an invoice with bank details to pay online or you can send a cheque payable to Gary Atkin Surgery Ltd to the remittance address on the invoice.  We do not accept payment by phone.
